Firm Overview

The firm of Devereux Murphy LLC was formed on April 1, 1994 by six attorneys for the purpose of providing the highest quality legal services in an environment allowing for the flexibility and efficiencies not available in large law firm practices. The firm represents clients ranging from publicly and privately held businesses and organizations to individuals, public entities, estates and trusts. All of the firm's attorneys have lengthy and substantial experience in their areas of specialization. Most come from large law firms where they developed their practices and expertise.

The attorneys in the firm have diverse backgrounds. They attended a number of different universities. Most served on Law Review or were awarded membership in national legal honorary societies; a number have lectured in their areas of expertise. Firm attorneys are also active in bar activities at both the local and national level, as well as activities of the local courts. One of the firm's attorneys recently served as advisor to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in connection with implementation of its alternative dispute resolution program and as drafter of the ADR rule adopted by the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis. Another is the President of the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc. and is a member of the Federal Practice Committee of the United States District Court. Firm attorneys are also extensively involved in numerous civic and charitable activities.

The primary focus of the firm is civil litigation. All of the firm's attorneys have experience in litigation. Collectively, we have tried more than 200 cases to conclusion (and, of course, handled cases many times that amount).

Firm attorneys have tried and handled cases in a wide spectrum of areas including commercial, products liability, insurance, securities, financial institutions, corporate, real estate, construction, employment, ERISA, environmental, medical malpractice, other personal injury and white collar criminal defense. We have represented clients before state and federal trial and appellate courts, before administrative tribunals and in arbitration and other ADR processes across the United States.

Members of the firm have substantial experience in both complex litigation involving hundreds of millions of dollars (including class and derivative actions) and smaller cases. We have served as lead counsel and as part of large litigation teams throughout the country, and as local counsel in St. Louis. We have worked with prominent and experienced trial lawyers across the United States, and are active in the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association as well as trial practice sections and committees at the local and state levels.

Coupled with our experience in national litigation, we pride ourselves on our knowledge of and experience with the St. Louis courts and legal community. The majority of our attorneys were born or raised in St. Louis. We have tried cases before most (and are familiar with all) of the judges in the metropolitan area and know the demographics of the pools from which our jurors are drawn. Our attorneys are active in the community in a wide variety of areas outside the law.

We are "hands-on" attorneys involved in the day to day aspects of our cases. We employ computer technology for document management, information retrieval and legal research, as well as the normal operations of our practice. We are familiar with all of the major outside litigation support services that assist in advising and establishing databases in, preparing demonstrative evidence for and providing jury perception research in major litigation matters.

Although our attorneys have come from different firms and diverse backgrounds, we enjoy a common commitment: To work hard to deliver prompt, quality legal services to our clients while enjoying our successful law practice. We help and support each other to achieve that goal. We draw upon the expertise and experience of each other in order to render the best possible legal advice and service to our clients.
